Southern Museum Hosts Railroad Rendezvous Event

Share the love of model railroading with the Southern Museum at the inaugural Railroad Rendezvous event on Saturday, July 27. This family-friendly, rain-or-shine event will take place from 10 am – 4 pm and includes an array of indoor-outdoor activities everyone is sure to enjoy.

GA_SnowThe event will feature an N-Scale layout by the Northwest Georgia N-Scalers group, as well as an interactive O-Gauge display and a HO-scale miniature railroad from the National Model Railroad Association. Several vendors will also be showcasing an assortment of railroad related items, children’s books, and memorabilia. Outside on the front lawn, children can interact with re-enactors and experience a recreated Hobo Jungle where they will learn about life on the rails, decode hobo language, and make bindle sacks. Families can also participate in period-specific games such as a bean bag toss, ring toss, and sack races.

Across the street in the Depot parking lot, the non-profit organization Operation Lifesaver will be sharing railroad safety lessons through tours of their interactive mobile education exhibit. There will be refreshments available for purchase from the Kennesaw Lion’s Club, as well as railroad and bluegrass music performed by the Mars Hill Porch Pickers and Historic Echoes. In addition to all the fun activities of the day, guests can view a special CSX Transportation locomotive scheduled to be onsite.

Admission for non-members is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors (60 and older) and $5 for children (ages 4 to 12). Admission is free for Museum members and children under three. For more information, contact the events coordinator at events@southernmuseum.org or 770.427.2117, ext. 305.
