REGISTER NOW-SEPT 15 2024 Scarecrows on Main. Kennesaw is excited to announce that registration is now open for the 2024 Scarecrows on Main display! The City of Kennesaw invites area residents, families, neighborhoods, non-profits, civic and faith-based organizations, local businesses, schools, sports teams and athletic clubs to design and create a scarecrow for our fifth annual Scarecrows on Main display on Main Street. A $25 application fee to the Kennesaw Downtown Development Authority is required for each entry. All funds raised will support downtown beautification projects and events. The deadline for applications is September 15, 2024, or until all available spots are filled. We look forward to seeing your creative scarecrows on Main Street! REGISTER NOW for KENNESAW’S SENIOR LUNCHEON The 2024 Kennesaw Parks & Recreation Fall Senior Luncheon Series, presented by Cobb EMC, is now open for registration. SAT SEPT 14 Kennesaw Concert Series The City of Kennesaw invites you to September the Kennesaw Concert Series at The Piedmont Bank Amphitheater, sponsored by Wellstar Health System. On Sept. 14, starting at 7 p.m., enjoy a performance by Face 2 Face, a tribute to Elton John and Billy Joel. Face 2 Face is the nation’s first and longest-running tribute to Billy Joel and Elton John. Taking turns at an onstage piano, the dual tribute artists in the show bring the beloved songsters to life in both sound and image. SAT SEPT 19-29 NORTH GEORGIA STATE FAIR As the largest fair in metro Atlanta, the Superior Plumbing presents North Georgia State Fair attracts over 300,000 people every year from north Georgia and neighboring states. The fair features free attractions and shows, farm animals, flower shows, blue ribbon competitions, local entertainment, and delicious fair foods. PLUS there are games and rides on the Great James H. Drew Exposition midway– one of the largest carnival midways in the United States, featuring the Wildcat Rollercoaster, Georgia Mountain Lift, and the Mega Slide. Gate Admission: $10.00 admission. Children 10 and under are always free. Ride tickets are $1.25 each, $20.00 for 21 tickets, $50.00 for 55 tickets and $100 for 120 tickets. SAT SEPT 21 Historic Kennesaw Walking Tour Join the City of Kennesaw’s Historic Preservation Commission in partnership with the Atlanta Preservation Center for the Historic Kennesaw Walking Tour on September 21 at 11 AM. In this walking tour of Downtown Kennesaw, learn about how the city has grown and changed during its almost 200-year history. Learn about the Medals of Honor awarded for action that started in Kennesaw, the historic houses along Cherokee Street, the transportation links that have helped North Georgia grow, and unique incidents and stories from the city’s past. The tour begins in the parking lot at Kennesaw’s Depot Park, where free parking is available. This walking tour is a little over a half-mile and stays on sidewalks and crosswalks. SUNDAY SEPT 22 BELLS ACROSS AMERICA The public is invited to attend Bells Across America,Hosted by the Kennesaw Mountain National Daughter’s of the American Revolution chapter (NSDAR). The event begins at 3:30 pm and will end at 4 pm with the bell choir and Kennesaw First Baptist Church bells pealing at the same time in recognition of the signing. We will have a short program beginning at 3:30 PM to introduce the significance of this event.
FRI SEPT 27 GLOVER PARK CONCERT SERIES featuring The Bourbon Brothers – Rat Pack Tribute. The concert starts a 8:00 pm. in Glover Park on the Square in Marietta. Blankets and lawn chairs may be set up in the park any time on Friday. Personal tables must be set up in the street after 6:00 pm. No tables in the park. SAT SEPT 28 KENNESAW ’S HARVEST HUSTLE run 5K – Register now for The HARVEST HUSTLE 5K which will be held on Saturday, September 28. The race includes a one mile fun run at 7:30 a.m.; the 5K at 8 a.m.; and a Tot Trot at 8:55 a.m. Awards are presented at the after party on Main Street at 9:15 a.m. The HARVEST HUSTLE 5K is run on a mostly flat and fast asphalt course, professionally timed and USAT&F Certified, through Downtown Kennesaw and Swift-Cantrell Park. The course is perfect for competitive runners seeking a qualifying time for the Peachtree Road Race. Fees are: 5K – $35 (now – Sept 27) Day of Registration $45; 1 Mile Fun Run – $20; Tot Trot – $5. SAT OCT 5 ACWORTH BOOK & STORY TELLING FESTIVAL Sponsored by Acworth Cultural Arts, this forum of local authors and storyteller performers is free to the public. This year’s theme is “Reflections by the Lake,” highlighting cultural and creative diversity with a variety of authors and performers. History, mystery, fact and fiction will all be represented. Attendees will hear presentations by published authors and performances by members of the Georgia Storytelling Network and students from KSU’s Storytelling troupe. The Festival will also feature 2 different panel discussions on poetry and comic books, as well as an opportunity to browse books offered for sale and meet with authors.
