Each wreath is made of fresh Maine Balsam Fir and decorated with a flag representing the USA, each branch of the military, and POW/MIA. A hand-tied velveteen bow completes the circle of flag tribute. SAT DEC 14 City of Kennesaw Wreaths Across America The Kennesaw City Cemetery, an official Wreaths Across America (WAA) location, along with the Kennesaw Mountain Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR), and the Kennesaw Cemetery Preservation Commission, will host a wreath-laying ceremony on Dec. 14 at 12 p.m. The ceremony will join more than 4,500 other locations across the country and abroad for National Wreaths Across America Day.
The event is coordinated and led by local volunteers, with sponsorship groups raising funds throughout the year to sponsor the placement of veterans’ wreaths on the headstones of fallen service members laid to rest at the cemetery. This annual event furthers the year-long mission to Remember, Honor, Teach, ensuring that the memory of those who served our country endures. Please join the Kennesaw Mountain Chapter, NSDAR and the City of Kennesaw to Remember our fallen men and women; Honor those who serve and Teach the next generation the value of Freedom. Sat, Dec 14 ACWORTH’S BREAKFAST WITH THE GRINCH He’s been on the naughty list but he’s trying to be nice. The Acworth Parks, Recreation and Community Resource Department is excited to host our Annual Breakfast with the Grinch at the Acworth Community Center on Saturday, December 14. Enjoy breakfast while the Grinch visits with each table for photo opportunities and to share Christmas wishes. After breakfast, the Grinch will join us as we do fun activities and create Grinch themed crafts. Space is limited and you must register each person attending or reserve a table for the whole family! Sat, Dec 14 SMITH GILBERT GARDENS WREATH MAKING Smith-Gilbert Gardens will host the “DIY Holiday Wreath Making” workshop on Dec. 14 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Ben Robertson Community Center. The class offers participants the chance to add a natural touch to their holiday decorations by creating and decorating a 12-inch wreath to take home. Dried materials from the garden will be provided, but participants are asked to bring their own wired ribbon. The timing of the class ensures wreaths will remain fresh throughout the holidays. SAT DEC 14 Holiday Cheer at the Southern Museum – 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m On Saturday, Dec. 14, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History will transform into a winter wonderland with festive activities for all ages—all included with regular museum admission. The Museum’s holiday event will feature an impressive collection of antique toys for visitors to explore throughout the day. The Atlanta Woodworkers Guild will showcase hand-lathed wooden toys, while 2nd Chance Toys will display vintage dolls and other cherished collectibles. The Atlanta Miniature Society will present intricate dioramas.A special 30-minute performance of holiday classics by the First Presbyterian Church of Marietta’s bell choir will take place at 11 a.m. Santa Claus will be available for photos and holiday wishes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Throughout the event, children and families can enjoy additional holiday-themed fun, including a holiday train layout, demonstrations of traditional doll making and a fascinating display of model trains from around the world. THURS. DEC 26 Kennesaw’s Menorah Lighting 5:00 PM Join the City of Kennesaw, in partnership with Chabad of Kennesaw, for the Menorah Lighting in the City Hall Plaza on December 26 at 5:00 PM. The eight-day Jewish holiday commemorates the Jewish Maccabees’ military victory over Syrian-Greek oppression more than 2,000 years ago. During Hanukkah, Jews worldwide celebrate the miracle of light that burnt for eight days out of a single day worth of oil found in the Temple. One Hanukkah candle is lit the first night and an additional candle is lit each successive night. The holiday is a celebration of religious freedom and hope.
