When Robin Jones, owner of Cottontail Quilts, located in Kennesaw, first learned of the Calvary Children’s Home several months ago, she decided to reach out to the local quilting and sewing community for assistance in making a personalized pillowcase for every child at the home. Within two days of publishing her newsletter, all the pillowcases had been accounted for and people were wanting to do more.
In order to be sure that every child at Calvary had something that they would have for years to come, it was decided to also make every child their own personalized lap quilt as well. Jones said, “Seeing everyone step forward wanting to help with this project was a wonderful feeling. Quilters are some of the most compassionate people I know.” A local sewing group stepped up and not only helped with several pillowcases and quilts, they also volunteered to make a holiday pillowcase (also personalized) for each of the children.
After their visit, Robin wrote “Oh my gosh…what an AWSOME experience that was! The children are incredible! We had so much fun giving them the quilts and pillowcases.” She and her group intend on keeping in touch with Calvary Children’s Home. This heartfelt endeavor could not have happened without the support of everyone who volunteered to assist. The group helped to make nearly 40 quilts and 80 pillowcases for the children at Calvary Children’s Home, as well as the house parents who care for the children. Each child received a pillowcase and matching lap quilt, along with a Holiday pillow case. Each item was embroidered with the child’s name and the materials were selected to reflect colors and interests of each individual child. Over 30 advid sewers and quilters hailed from Acworth. Kennesaw Marietta. Atlanta. Cartersville, Canton, Alabama. and even the Midwest. Cottontail Quilts is a drop off point for anyone who wants to donate quilts and pillowcases for future children of the home.
