Kennesaw’s State of the City presented at KBA

dignitaries1Kennesaw Development On The Horizon

On Tuesday, January 14, Kennesaw Mayor Mark Mathews addressed an audience of more than 250 Kennesaw Business Association members, civic leaders, educators, and guests about Kennesaw’s accomplishments and plans for growth and development in his annual State of the City presentation.

The theme of the presentation, Let’s Build It, was very appropriate as the Mayor described several major projects on the verge of start-up. These included the downtown mixed-use development proposed for a five acre assemblage on Main Street and Watts Drive; a 250,000 square foot, $57 million critical care nursing facility off Pine Mountain Road; and a privately funded, 400,000 square foot specialty retail development at the intersection of Cobb Parkway and Barrett Parkway. “For years, we’ve been laying the groundwork to bring our vision for this city to life, and it’s exciting to see major progress finally being made,” said Mayor Mathews. “The development we anticipate will not only bring a new vitality and energy to our city, but it will also result in the addition of some high quality jobs.”

The Mayor also emphasized the importance of the city’s relationships with Kennesaw State University, the Cobb County Chamber of Commerce, Development dignitariesAuthority, Travel and Tourism, and Sports Alliance, and its own boards, commissions, and authorities. “Without their support, we would not enjoy the successful growth and development we have,” said the Mayor.

The presentation concluded with a montage of photos showing the construction, completion, and November opening of the 40,000 square foot, all-concrete Kennesaw Skatepark.  The park is already attracting thousands of skateboard enthusiasts and is expected to be the site of regional Street League Skateboarding competitions this year.
