More Holiday Festivities through Dec 15

Acworth, Kennesaw and Marietta have more Holiday Festivities planned.  Something fun for everyone, but best of all – several appearances from Santa.

Acworth’s Santa Arrival

The City of Acworth, along with their partner NorthStar Church is excited to host this year’s Santa’s Arrival! Santa arrives in Historic Downtown Acworth on Senator Russell Avenue on Friday, December 7. Festivities will begin at 5:30 p.m. and Santa is scheduled to arrive at 6:30 p.m. There will be a host of live performances and activities until 8:30 p.m. to help Santa kickoff the holiday season. Don’t forget to visit Frana Brown Park, where you can peruse the beautiful Festival of Trees! Bring the entire family to hear Mayor Tommy Allegood read The Night Before Christmas and watch the lighting of the tree on the Plaza behind Henry’s. Enjoy pictures with Mr. Claus, eating candy canes with all his elves, and filling the streets with the holiday spirit. Pictures with Santa are free each year and begin at 6:45 p.m. There will not be a photographer onsite, so please plan on bringing your camera to capture the special moment. FRI DEC 7 MARIETTA POPS ORCHESTRA HOLIDAY CONCERT -Friday night, December 7 at 7:30, Marietta Pops Orchestra is presenting their ninth annual holiday-pops concert. Marietta Pops Orchestra, formerly Symphony on the Square, is the new name for an orchestra now almost nine-years old. This year the annual holiday concert will be in the 800-seat sanctuary of First Baptist Church Marietta, 148 Church St., Marietta. To purchase tickets: Adult ($20) – online (www.mariettapops.org) using a credit card, or at the door (cash, check, credit card) Student, K-12 ($10) – at the door (cash, check, credit card).

FRI DEC 7 STRAND OLE OPRYS COUNTRY CHRISTMAS – Enjoy a rocking own-home bluegrass concert of holiday music performed on the banjo, fiddle, guitar, bass, and washboard. A band of merry singers and traditional southern storytellers invite patrons onto The Strand’s metaphorical ‘back porch’ to bring a little twang to the tinsel season. Tickets are $18 in advance and $20 the day of the concert.

The Kennesaw Acworth Optimist Club is hosting an “all you care to eat” breakfast complete with pancakes, sausage juice, coffee and table to table visits with the jolly old Elf himself. Grandma Elf will also be doing holiday readings for the big and little alike. Seatings are available from 8:00 am to 9:15 am or 10:am to 11:15 am. Tickets are only $6 per person and can be purchased online at www.kennesawparksandrec.com or at the Ben Robertson Community Center. Tickets can also be purchased at the door based on availability.

SAT DEC 8 BREAKFAST WITH SANTA – Daddy’s Country Kitchen invites our community to Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, December 8 from 9-12. Kids 10 and under eat breakfast for $5, Adults $9. Daddy’s is located at 3485 Acworth Due West Rd., Acworth. Please call 770-974-2281 for reservations.

2018 Christmas at Piedmont Church  Arts & Crafts Show

Join us for a festive celebration; Christmas at Piedmont Church Arts & Craft Show will be buzzing with activity on Friday, December 7th and Saturday, December 8th.   Come shop the wide variety of unique arts and crafts exhibitors from all over the southeast.   A sample of products to be sold is jewelry, pottery, paintings, ornaments, apparel, unique one of a kind gift items and much, much, more.  A perfect time to enjoy good family fun and finish up your Christmas shopping!!

There will be delicious festival food to warm your insides, local entertainment, FREE rides on the 50-foot Snow Tube ride on Friday and FREE Petting Zoo on Saturday. Bring your camera for a photo op with Santa, FREE children’s activities, roasting marshmallows & smores and much, much more.

The Snow Tubing Slide is presented by C&S Paving on Friday from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m., to 5 p.m. You and your family can ride on more than 50 feet of a state-of-the-art snow tube slide that uses more than 8,000 pounds of ice and snow to create an awesome winter experience …the best part is it’s FREE!!!

The Petting Zoo on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. The whole gang can see more than 20 of your favorite petting zoo animals right there on the lawn at Piedmont Church.  Local Entertainment will be set on the LGE Community Credit Union Stage featuring local school chorus groups filling the air with joy.  Local dance groups will also be there to get you in the Christmas Spirit! Children’s Activities will be in abundance featuring a giant slide, Euro-Quad Bungy, obstacle course, bounces, and more.  There will be fun activities for children throughout the event – roasting marshmallows, seeing Santa, and much, much more! Don’t let the rain keep you away as many of the activities are inside.

Hours are Friday, December 7th; 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. and Saturday, December 8th; 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  FREE Admission and FREE Parking. There will also be FREE parking and a free courtesy shuttle from J J Daniel Middle School and the Old Time Pottery Parking lots.

THE SOUTHERN MUSEUM CELEBRATES WITH SANTA’S WORKSHOP

The Southern Museum, located in downtown Kennesaw, is assisting Santa this year with his toy production and hosting a special day for families on Saturday, December 8, from 9:30 am to 5 pm. The Museum will also be a toy drop-off location for the Jerry Worthan Memorial Christmas Fund, sponsored by the Kennesaw Police Department, from November 1 through December 15. All collected toys will go to community families and children in need. Santa and Mrs. Claus join the fun in the afternoon from 1 pm to 5 pm.

The Glover Machine Works exhibit factory floor will be transformed into Santa’s Workshop where children and families may meet and take pictures with Santa.

Families will also enjoy seeing the world famous General lit up to holiday music and two special holiday train layouts on display. The Polar Express Movie will show in the Museum Theater at 10 am and again at 2 pm. Families can create and decorate their own unique wood ornament to take home. Children will also have the opportunity to write a letter to Santa to give to him personally or place their wishes in our special mailbox for the North Pole. All visitors are encouraged to come dressed in their best Polar Express pajamas or fun holiday sweaters for pictures with Santa. Please note that professional photographs are not offered but staff will be present to take pictures on personal cameras or phones.

Museum regular admission is $7.50 for adults, $6.50 for seniors ages 60 and over, and $5.50 for children ages 4-12. Museum members receive free event admission. The Southern Museum is located at 2829 Cherokee Street in Downtown Kennesaw Please visit SouthernMuseum.org for further information.

SAT DEC 8 HOYA MERRY MARKET – Mark your calendar! Harrison High School will hold its third annual HOYA MERRY MARKET on Saturday, December 8, 2018. Crafters will sell their hand-made items in the school’s main dining hall from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. The Market is open to the public and admission is FREE.

SAT DEC 8 CHRISTMAS IN ACWORTH  Santa will be at the Plaza beside Acworth City Hall for pictures from 1-5 p.m.  Pictures are free of charge. Make sure to bring your own camera to capture this special moment, as no photographer will be on-site. In addition to pictures, there will also be free horse and carriage rides available departing from the Plaza. We hope to see you this holiday season for Christmas in Acworth!  Christmas in Acworth is sponsored by the Acworth Downtown Development Authority.  IF IT RAINS, Santa will move inside the lobby of Acworth City Hall and the horse and carriage rides will be cancelled.

SAT DEC 8 Menorah Lighting At Glover Park Celebrate Hanukkah with a Menorah Lighting on the Glover Park Stage at Marietta Square by Congregation Ner Tamid of Marietta/ West Cobb, Saturday, December 8 from 6:30-7:30 pm, led by Rabbi Joseph Prass, featuring holiday music, FREE hot chocolate & jelly donuts, and a cash door prize!  All are welcome. GREAT GIG’S SIGHTS AND SOUNDS OF THE SEASON
Mayors of Acworth and Kennesaw will appear in Christmas Dance Show

Great Gig Dance Co. in Kennesaw presents “Sights and Sounds of the Season,” on SUNDAY, December 9th at NorthStar Church. The show will feature the talented dancers of Great Gig Dance Ensemble and the premier of The Jazzy Nutcracker, a fresh take on a classic story.

This Nutcracker is set to the music of Duke Ellington and takes place in the 1940s when a World War 2 soldier returns to his hometown to spend Christmas with his family. Come see Kennesaw Mayor Derek Easterling and Acworth Mayor Tommy Allegood as they join the dancers on stage in this production, uniting the communities of Kennesaw and Acworth and welcoming the Christmas season. “Sights and Sounds of the Season” promises to get you and your family in the Christmas mood!

A reception featuring holiday desserts begins at 5:00pm and includes a holiday-themed silent auction, followed by the show in the theater.
