Two-Day Marietta StreetFest Offers Fall Fun for Families
Happening this weekend, the 28th annual Marietta StreetFest celebrates arts & crafts, family fun, live music and classic cars in historic Marietta Square. Held Saturday, Sept. 21 and Sunday, Sept. 22, the outdoor event is presented by the Marietta Museum of History, and admission is FREE! Founded in 1991, the festival was expanded to a two-day event in 2017 and now draws more than 25,000 each year. Marietta StreetFest has been honored as a 2018 Southeast Tourism Society Top 20 Event.
THE ARTS
Just the place to pick up something new and crafty, Artist Alley and Jewelry Row feature works from more than 75 vendors. Local and national artists offer handcrafted items like paintings, jewelry and pottery, as well a market-style items, such as jellies, jams and sauces.
KIDS
Each year, Marietta StreetFest includes plenty of fun activities for kids. In Kids Korner and Tiny Tot Town, young festival attendees will find inflatables, crafts, games and more. Throughout the weekend, a variety of kid-friendly entertainment from puppets to a bubble show will delight audiences of all ages. A small fee applies to some activities.
VINTAGE CARS
The 15th-annual Hubcaps and History Classic Car Show pops up within the square during Marietta StreetFest. Displaying a wide variety of interesting and amazing classic cars, the show takes place on Saturday only and weather permitting. Multiple awards will be given along with one award for People’s Choice. The winners will be announced at the festival on Saturday at 3 p.m.
MUSIC
Live music makes everything better, and StreetFest is thrilled to welcome the Marietta Grassroots Music Festival again this year. Musical performances in a variety of genres showcase local bands and singer/songwriters who offer original music while attendees relax on blankets and even enjoy a picnic lunch.
The Festival runs Saturday, Sept. 21, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 22, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. While certain features have limited hours: Arts & Crafts Vendor Market: Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Kids Korner: Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m; Hubcaps & History Classic Car Show: Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m; Marietta Grassroots Music Festival: Saturday, 3 to 9 p.m. and Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m.
PARKING
Free on-street parking is available around Marietta Square. Additional parking is available in the decks located at Waddell and Lawrence streets, hourly rates apply. Attendance at Marietta StreetFest is free! along with Free admission to Marietta Museum of History during the festival weekend! NOW-SUN. SEPT 29 NORTH GEORGIA STATE FAIR. 87th Annual Superior Plumbing Presents the North Georgia State Fair beginning Thursday, Sept. 19, through Sunday, September 29, 2019 at Jim R. Miller Park, 2245 Callaway Rd., Marietta. The fair grounds will be open Monday through Thursday 4 to 11 p.m., Fridays 4 p.m. to midnight Saturdays 10 a.m., to midnight, and Sundays 12:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Gate Admission: $7.00 admission. Children 10 and under are free. Ride tickets are $1.25 each, $20.00 for 21 tickets, $50.00 for 55 tickets and $100 for 120 tickets. All rides require more than one ticket. Parking is $5. SAT SEPT 21 – RUN THE WARRIOR WAY – NCHS Cross Country Fundraiser. The Warrior Way begins at 7:30 a.m. in the front of North Cobb High School and the fee is $25. All proceeds benefit NCHS Cross Country. You can register for the race online or by printing a registration form that you can mail by going to http://www.northcobbcrosscountry.org/warrior-way-5k.html. Take the challenge, and come out to run a 5K the Warrior Way!
SAT SEPT 21 PINWHEELS FOR PEACE – Celebrate International Day of Peace at Swift Cantrell Park from 10-6:00 pm. Home made, store bought, pinwheels may be dropped off at the park from 8:00 am until 10:00 am that morning. SAT SEPT 21 FREE ADMISSION AT SOUTHERN MUSEUM.The Southern Museum will open its doors free of charge to all Museum Day ticket holders on Saturday September 21, 2019 as part of Smithsonian magazine’s 15th annual Museum Day. Museum Day tickets will be available for download at Smithsonian.com/museumday beginning August 15. Visitors who present a Museum Day ticket will gain free entrance for two at participating venues on September 21, 2019. SAT 21 BBQ FUNDRAISER FOR WARRIORS AGAINST DIPG Warriors Against DIPG is having a BBQ fund raiser in honor of India’s Journey to be held on September 21, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Mount Olivet Baptist Church, 2385 Acworth Due West Road, Acworth, GA 30101. Proceeds will be donated to the Dana-Farber Institute of Cancer and the Jimmy Fund for DIPG research.
