2018 Public Safety Employee of the Year

Patrol Officer Jayson Duncan, Marietta Police Department

This award is given to an employee who has performed his or her job with exceptional skill, exhibited leadership and critical incident management and a devotion to their responsibilities. The 2018 Public Safety Employee of the Year received a glass sculpture created by Lillie Glassblowers in Smyrna, and a handgun courtesy of GLOCK.
In the nine years Patrol Officer Jayson Duncan has served in public safety, he has been awarded for multiple acts of heroism, critical thinking and leadership. His service and commitment has saved many lives in Marietta.

On March 31, 2018, Duncan responded to a report of stabbing that had occurred as a result of a fight off Powers Ferry Road. When Duncan arrived on the scene, he found the victim with a large slash across his throat, which was bleeding heavily. Duncan took control and assisted another officer with applying hemostatic gauze to the wound. Being thorough and diligent in all situations, Duncan treated the patient until the EMS arrived and took over. Due to his training, experience and preparedness, both Duncan and his colleague were able to treat the victim before it worsened.
