SMOKE ON THE LAKE BBQ FESTIVAL ~ MAY 6-7 2016
The Barbecue season kicks off the year with one of the first competitions in north Georgia. More than 30 teams will fill up Cauble Park in downtown Acworth on Friday May 6, from 6:00 p.m., to 10:00 p.m., and Saturday May 7, from 10:00 a.m., to 4:00 p.m. Admission to the festival is free and free parking can be found downtown with free shuttles running Friday night for the concert and fireworks and all day Saturday.
Superior Plumbing is presenting the event which kicks off with a free concert and fireworks in conjunction with the Acworth Business Association and the City of Acworth on Friday May 6, The Mustangs will delight everyone, playing your country favorites on the CobbEMC Concert Stage at 8:00 p.m., presented by Day’s Chevrolet. Fireworks will shoot high in to the sky following the concert, so bring the whole family for a night you won’t soon forget! Reserved tables that seat six can be purchased for $100. Teams will compete on Friday night to see who will be crowned the Lord of the Wings Champion. This is judged by patrons of the concert Friday night, so bring the whole family and make sure you are all hungry!
Visit the teams and taste all the BBQ you desire, as the Taster’s Choice award will also be decided by patrons of the event on Saturday morning at starting at 10:00 a.m. Tickets to taste the backyard teams BBQ will be on sale for a nominal charge. Vote with your stomach early and often to crown the winner of a Primo Grill and the title of the 2016 People’s Choice Champion.
Activities for the kids will be in the Northwest Family YMCA Kids Zone and local entertainment fills the stage from 11:00 a.m., to 3:00 p.m., on Saturday with the awards given out at 4:00 p.m.
The Smoke on the Lake BBQ Festival is the largest fundraiser of the year for the Rotary Club of North Cobb as proceeds of the event go to the charities of the North Cobb Rotary Club, including the Acworth Special Needs Field, End Polio Now, Mountain Top Boys Home, The Men’s Extension, The Women’s Extension, MUST Ministries, Cobb Christmas, local Cobb schools and more. MARIETTA SQUARE ART WALK
Marietta Square Art Walk continues Friday, May 6 from 5pm to 9pm. Art Walk celebrates the vitality of Marietta’s diverse cultural Arts scene with artists, businesses, and organizations representing all the Arts. The evening comes alive as performance, dance, culinary and visual Art permeate every corner of the charming Historic Marietta Square.
During this free, self-guided walking tour guests will enjoy gallery openings at Red Door Art Gallery & Studios, dk Gallery, Marietta Square Artists Attic, and 2 Rules Fine Art.

NATIONAL TRAIN DAY FOR AUTISM
will be held Saturday May 7. – The Southern Museum will host a National Train Day for Autism! The Museum will have several types of model train layouts for children of different ages and needs to tinker and play with, including wooden toy trains and remote controlled trains. There will also be in-depth circuitry workshops for those who want to learn to build their own train layouts at home. May-retta Daze Arts & Crafts Festival
The Marietta Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce the 40th Annual May-retta Daze Arts and Crafts Festival held in Glover Park in the Historic Marietta Square will be held on May 7-8, 2016.
The festival draws artists and craftspeople from many Southern states, as well as local Georgia artists. In addition to a wide variety of arts and crafts items, the festival also includes children’s activities and free entertainment on the stage.
The show setting is at Glover Park in the historic Marietta Square. The Square is the home of many antique and specialty stores, excellent restaurants and interesting things to do.

LIGHT THE WAY 5K
The Kiwanis Club invites our community to participate in their Light the Way 5k on Sat. May 7 at 7:00 pm. Wear your glowing, flashing, sparkling, blinking running gear for this nighttime race!
Packet pickup and race-day registration begin near the track at Marietta High School at 6:00 p.m. This fun family event will kick off at 7:00 p.m. with a parade of entrants for all the participating Marietta City Schools. The Star Spangled Banner will be at 7:25 p.m. followed by a FREE Tot Trot at 7:30 for ages 4 & Under.
The 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk will be held on the Marietta High school track at 7:35 – the fee is $20. The Light the Way 5K will begin at 8:00 p.m. and is a Peachtree Qualifier – the fee is $25. Put on your glow gear and join in the fun! There will be music and fun for the whole family!

KENNESAW’S OUTDOOR MOVIE NIGHT – SAT MAY 7 –
Come Meet the Little Voice Inside Your Head. The City of Kennesaw is excited to announce the return of its free Outdoor Movie Series at Swift-Cantrell Park with Disney-Pixar’s Inside Out (rated PG). Arrive at 6 pm for pre-movie entertainment, giveaways, and outdoor fun. Moviegoers should bring a blanket or low-back chairs. Pop-up tents, canopies, or beach umbrellas that can obstruct the view of others are not permitted. Concessions will be available for purchase. Parking is available inside the park and at neighboring Kennesaw Elementary School.
