Spring Art Festival at KSU, April 14 plus more events.

Kennesaw State University’s School of Art and Design is celebrating the arts with a free Spring Arts Festival on Saturday, April 14 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Professors from the School of Art and Design will lead arts activities that include demonstrations and workshops on Psychic Drawing, Portrait Drawing, and Raku Ceramics firing. Don’t miss the fascinating Iron Pour and the Forging and Glass Demonstrations. New this year is an artists’ market featuring over 30 local artists.

Geo Sipp, director of the School of Art and Design said, “This is a great opportunity for the public to learn more about the School of Art and Design, to experience different types of art, and to make your own art.” This year, you may even make your own digital Mother’s Day card.

All activities are free except for the scratch block molds used for the iron pour. T-Shirts and food are available for purchase. Free parking is available in the Central Parking Deck; activities will be held in and around the Visual Arts Building and the Zuckerman Museum of Art on the Kennesaw campus.

FRI- SUN APR 13-15 COBB COUNTY BOOK SALE Make plans now to attend the spring semi-annual book sale April 13-15 at the Cobb Civic Center. Book sale hours will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The civic center is located at 548 South Marietta Pkwy SE, Marietta and has plenty of free parking.

SAT APR 14 MARIETTA TREE KEEPERS – 8:30 AM. Calling for volunteers of all ages to come out and assist Marietta Tree Keepers as we maintain Hill Park on Saturday, April 14, 2018. Hill Park is a pretty little pocket park that was transformed from a once vacant lot just a few blocks off the northeast corner of Historic Marietta Square. The park was dedicated to the memory of Willie Hill, deacon of Zion Baptist Church. We will also travel to other planting locations to maintain other past planting sites. SAT- SUN APR 14 & 15 PUBLIC ART INSTALLATIONS, MARIETTA. M2R TrailFest is a two-day celebration of the arts offering an immersive celebration of the arts for all ages. Art performances, live music, and visual installations can be enjoyed along the trail, which stretches from Lewis Park near WellStar Kennestone Hospital, trackside along the Marietta Square, ending in Brown Park. The juried art festival introduces public art installations in a way never celebrated in Marietta. A sculpture garden in Atherton Square debuts during the two-day festival, along with brightly colored murals, art installations, and a Fence Art Gallery. While only festival goers will get to enjoy the live performances, many installations will be on display for up to sixty days. SAT APR 14 ANDREWS RAID LECTURE 7:30 pm. The lecture is being presented in partnership with the Kennesaw Historical Society and local historian, Michael K. Shaffer on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. outside at the Underpass Amphitheater at the Depot in Downtown Kennesaw, 2829 Cherokee Street. The Lecture will be moved inside The Southern Museum in case of inclement weather. This is a paid event – cash only at site, credit at Museum.
