The Kiwanis Club of Marietta started the All-American Soap Box Derby – Marietta Georgia Local Race in 2004 after Kiwanis President Devan Seabaugh picked up some literature on derby racing while attending the 2003 Kiwanis International Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana. Seabaugh returned to Marietta and agreed to serve as Local Derby Director and organize an event if the Kiwanis Club of Marietta would agree to donate seed money in the amount of $10,000. The Board of Directors, under the leadership of President Jan Blodgett, unanimously agreed to do so and the Marietta Georgia Soap Box Derby signed on with the AASBD International organization.
Devan has served as the Director of the Marietta Soap Box Derby for the last ten years. Today, the Marietta Kiwanis recognized Devan for his 10 years of service with a Devan Seabaugh Appreciation Award. The award was presented by Don Massaro.
