Dansby Swanson honored by Marietta High School

On Monday night, February 12th, the Marietta High School baseball program honored Dansby Swanson during a pre-game ceremony before their first home game matchup against Campbell High School.

Marietta Baseball recognized Dansby for all of his accomplishments, and placed a cut-out jersey of his Marietta #3 on the outfield fence.

Dansby was a two sport letterman at Marietta High School where he excelled in baseball and basketball.

In 2012, he received a scholarship to Vanderbilt University where he led the baseball team to the 2014 College World Series National Championship. In 2015, he was selected first overall by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the Major League Baseball Draft.

Coach Phillip Rogers, Head Coach for Marietta Blue Devil Baseball, expressed what it was like coaching Dansby at MHS. “What stood out the most to me about Dansby was his baseball I.Q. – he would see things while he was in the dugout, during an at bat, while he was on the bases about the other team that no one else was seeing – including coaches,” said Rogers.  “It was amazing to watch and I was the one learning from him!”

After being traded during the 2015-2016 off season, Dansby is now back in his hometown representing as the current shortstop for the Atlanta Braves.

“Dansby was always a positive role model among his peers and teammates.  He’s a natural born leader who makes people around him better,” said MHS Athletic Director, Paul Hall.
“We’re all extremely proud of all his accomplishments and are delighted that he’s back with us tonight.”
