Commission Chairman Tim Lee was the featured speaker at the Cobb Chamber’s First Monday Breakfast on Monday January 11 and the featured speaker at the Marietta Business Association  Luncheon on the same day.

The breakfast featured an invocation by Dr. Sam Matthews, senior minister at First United Methodist Church of Marietta. The home church of Tim Lee, Chairman of the Cobb Board of Commissioners.  West Cobb Commissioner, Bob Weatherford, introduced Lee at the MBA luncheon.

Chairman Lee’s message was important and filled with pertinent information about the state of our County.  Below in his words are some of the high lights of his speech.

Chairman Lee writes: “This morning at a Chamber of Commerce breakfast hosted by our friends at Georgia Power, I was honored to deliver the State of the County address to community leaders in Cobb.

2015 was a year of progress, investment, and opportunity.  Thanks to the halo effect of SunTrust Park, our county is experiencing amazing growth at a record pace.

While many businesses are moving from the suburbs to the urban core in most parts of the country, Cobb County in bucking the trend!

Last year, private companies invested more than $300 million in our community.  During my time as Chairman, there has been more than $2 billion of private investment in Cobb.

This growth, which ultimately builds Cobb County’s tax digest, has allowed county leaders to invest in critical priorities like public safety and infrastructure.

This year, the Board of Commissioners made a $196 million investment in keeping our county safe and secure.  This investment will allow us to put 80 more officers on the street while ensuring that Cobb has the recruitment and retention policies in place to attract and retain the best and brightest in law enforcement.

Thanks to funding through our 2011 SPLOST, Cobb County is now the home of an international airport.  Last year, McCollum Airport opened a new customs facility and unveiled a new, world-class air traffic control tower.  Used by local economic development professionals as a tool for luring major corporations, the Cobb International Airport is positioning itself to be one of the best facilities for corporate travelers in the Southeast.

With sound fiscal management, our county continues to earn high marks from Wall Street.  For the 19th consecutive year, Cobb County can boast a Triple AAA bond rating from each of the 3 major rating agencies.  There are less than fifty counties in the United States that hold this prestigious rating.

Simply put: The state of the county is strong and getting stronger!

In the New Year, we will continue to work tirelessly to keep our county prosperous, safe everywhere for everyone, and poised for an even better, brighter future.

I look forward to reporting back with our continued progress.  Together, we will keep Cobb County the best place to live, work, raise a family, and play ball! ”
