43rd ANNUAL SUPERIOR PLUMBING KENNESAW/BIG SHANTY FESTIVAL

Come Enjoy the 43rd annual Superior Plumbing Kennesaw/Big Shanty Festival April 13 and 14 in downtown Kennesaw. This is a giant family-friendly festival, with a variety of activities to entertain all ages.

The Superior Plumbing Kennesaw/Big Shanty Festival features over 250 Arts & Crafts booths, 25 food booths (see Greg Carter’s Festival Food article on page 7 of the April Bright Side), two entertainment stages, including the Local Entertainment Stage, Jurassic Kingdom Presented by LOUD Security Systems Inc., K’9s In Flight Presented by Kennesaw Mountain Veterinary Services, Robocars Presented by Carl Black Kennesaw.Peter Hart’s interactive Puppet show Presented by Elder Law Firm, and the huge Interactive Kids Zone, as well as live acoustic music in the new Food Court throughout the weekend. Something for the entire family! In addition to shopping the Arts & Crafts Booths and enjoying that calorie free Festival food, you will be absolutely amazed by the free entertainment at the event this year.

The location of the festival features the rich heritage of Kennesaw and its important role in the Civil War. The Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History sits at the center of the festival. This Smithsonian-affiliated Museum is home to the famous “General” locomotive and encompasses the history of the downtown Kennesaw area. Stop by the enormous Kid’s Zone with inflatables big and small for kids of all ages.

Check out the new Food Court In the parking lot, adjacent to Trackside Grill Live music will be  featured  both Saturday & Sunday from the spectacular Scott Thompson. In addition, this area will feature one of our Local entertainment stages. Cobb EMC will also be providing complimentary cell phone charging stands so you will be able to stay connected & charged up throughout the day!

Of course, it wouldn’t be a festival without outstanding local entertainment and all your favorite “festival foods”. Entertainment will include some of Kennesaw’s most talented residents performing, local dance and demonstration teams, school chorus groups, members of Great Gig Dance Studio, ETO Storm Team and many more community groups on the Local Entertainment Stage. The two entertainment stages Baker, Bullard, Big Shanty, Hayes Elementary, and McCall, as well as Awtrey, Durham, Palmer and Pine Mountain Middle Schools — plus an awesome jump rope routine by the Kennesaw ES Grasshoppers.

The PARADE – starts at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 13

To kick off the festivities – A PARADE – will start at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 13. The Parade features fabulous floats and proud marchers – more than 2,000 youngsters representing every sport association and school in the area, plus winners of many pageants along with Allatoona, Kell, Kennesaw Mountain and North Cobb High School Bands. The Parade route is slightly changed as it will leave Adams Park onto Watts Drive, taking a right at the roundabout and proceed to Main St and taking a Left.  The parade will follow Main St. and then turn left onto Park Dr. to end back at Adams Park.

The Superior Plumbing Kennesaw/Big Shanty Festival is held in downtown Kennesaw on both sides of Main Street (Highway 293) and is co-sponsored by the City of Kennesaw and the Kennesaw Business Association (a non-profit organization). The hours of operation are 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m., on Saturday, April 13, and noon-5:00 p.m., on Sunday, April 14. Admission is FREE. BIG SHANTY FESTIVAL ATTRACTIONS

Jurassic Kingdom will have audiences roaring with excitement! Not only do patrons get to experience life-like dinosaurs in ACTION, they also have the opportunity to touch and interact with them throughout the show! Meet fantastic characters such as Terry the talking, comical pterodactyl, Jack – a 2 month old Brontosaurus & many more! This Jaw-dropping show is presented by Loud Security Systems Inc.

K’9s In Flight, presented by Kennesaw Mountain Veterinary Services. are the country’s top premier K9 Sports entertainers, with over 15 years of professional experience. They have dazzled fans all across America and beyond. Audiences of all ages will be entertained by this non-stop, action-packed performance showcasing the top amazing K-9 sports, including high jump and Frisbee all in a fun, high-flying atmosphere

Peter Hart’s puppet show, presented by Elder Law Firm, LLC. appeals to everyone in the audience with unique marionettes and puppet characters that sing, dance, juggle, play fiddle, break apart and come back together, squirt water, and are even launched by catapult across the stage! Patrons will enjoy interacting with Peter & his puppets through musical and comical performances. Join Peter Hart & his Atlanta Puppet Show every hour Starting at 10 am on Saturday and Noon on Sunday!

 

Also, strolling through the festival will be the phenomenon known as “Robocars”. Robocars are a unique & fun range of brightly colored, life-size, transforming Robot Vehicles. Operator driven, they walk & drive creating endless excitement & photo opportunities for the whole family. Robocars is proudly presented by Carl Black BUICK, GMC of Kennesaw.
