Big BBQ and Race this Weekend. May 10-11

Let’s all join hands and ask Mother Nature to skip our area with the rain this weekend.  Two fun-filled events to choose from – or do both!

SMOKE ON THE LAKE – MAY 10 AND 11

Get ready to start your summer activities a little early by attending Smoke on the Lake BBQ Festival. The North Cobb Rotary Club, and the City of Acworth are partnering to bring you the 10th Annual Smoke on the Lake BBQ Festival presented by Superior Plumbing and Primo Grills.

This year’s event will take place on Friday night, May 10 and Saturday, May 11 at Cauble Park, 2263 Beach Street, Acworth, GA. All proceeds from this event are distributed amongst several local charities, so everyone come out and help make a difference in your community!

The best Eagles & Alabama Tribute Band, Georgia Players Guild, take the stage on Friday night at 8:00 p.m., for the concert under the stars. All ages will enjoy this show as they will be playing all your favorite Alabama and Eagles songs.

General Admission is free on Friday night and tables of six can be purchased for $100, price includes your table and six chairs for the whole crew.

Lord of the Wings: Take part in the crowning of the Lord of the Wings Competition on Friday night starting at 6:00 p.m. as cook teams cook up their best recipe of the good old chicken wing! For a nominal charge you can purchase tastes of all the backyard teams competing for the title of “Lord of the Wings”.

People’s Choice Award: Come enjoy barbecue you can’t buy at any old store and help us decide who makes the best backyard BBQ around. For a nominal charge you can purchase tastes of all the backyard teams competing for the “Taster’s Choice BBQ” sponsored by Bay Equity Home Loans. Starts at Noon on Saturday as long as the BBQ lasts!

Teams from all over the Southeast compete in multiple divisions to see who will take home the title.

Kid’s Zone: Northwest YMCA Kid’s Zone will feature interactive inflatables for kids of all ages. Slide down a giant 24-foot inflatable slide, jump on a huge obstacle course, shoot hoops in the bouncy basketball jumpy and others.

Parking will not be available at the park so please park downtown and use the provided shuttles. Shuttle stops and available parking can be found at www.smokeonthelake.org. SWIFT CANTRELL CLASSIC 5K – MAY 11, 2019

The Swift-Cantrell Park Foundation is celebrating 10 years of the Swift-Cantrell Classic! The Swift-Cantrell Classic 5k is the opening race of the 2019 Kennesaw Grand Prix Series. The race begins at the Kennesaw First Baptist Church, meanders through Swift-Cantrell Park, and finishes in historic downtown Kennesaw. The fast and flat race is professionally timed and serves as a qualifier for the Peachtree Road Race (GA1103OWC). Runners will cross the finish line into a post-race party in the City Plaza for the awards ceremony and celebration.
Complimentary breakfast refreshments will be served post-race for all runners and friends.

MAY 14 COMMUNITY FORUM hosted by Kennesaw Art and Culture Commission PUBLIC Art Master Plan. Local business owners, residents and art enthusiasts are invited to learn more about the plan’s key findings and recommendations at two community forums being held at the Ben Robertson Community Center at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7th and Tuesday, May 14th. There will be opportunities at the community forums for the public to provide input on creative placemaking priorities. FRI MAY 17 GOLF TOURNAMENT – sponsored by Kennesaw/Acworth Optimist Club. This Friday afternoon golf tournament will be an enjoyable end to a busy week on the beautiful greens of The Cobblestone Golf Course. Lunch will be served and prizes will be awarded.
