The Northwest YMCA needs your help in feeding our local kids!
Last Saturday the Northwest Family YMCA in West Cobb in partnership with Freedom Church – assembled and delivered a weeks worth of lunch supplies directly to children in Cobb County who struggle with food insecurity while school is not in session. This was done with the help of our volunteers and the generous donations from local business and Y members.
The families we serve were overwhelmed and grateful for the much needed supplies. These are the families we serve year round. It was good to see the children and assure them that the Y is here for them during time of crisis.
Our lunch kits consist of a loaf of bread, a jar of peanut butter, jelly, granola bars, fruit cups and a few sweet treats. We are looking to expand these kits to include breakfast items and afternoon snacks.
Food donations needed:
• Bread
(BY THE LOAF)
• Jar of peanut butter
• Jar of Jelly
• Single serve packages of pretzels, goldfish
• Fruit cups, applesauce
• Granola bars/fruit bars
We are delivering the supplies weekly in order to minimize exposure and adhere to current social distancing guidelines.
The Northwest Family YMCA and Freedom Church have delivered meals to more than 500 children and we hope to do much more in the coming weeks, but this requires donations to support this important hunger relief program.
Donations may be dropped off at Freedom Church (Cobb Parkway across from the big Walmart)Monday – Thursday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. For more information contact Becky Cross at beckyc@ymcaatlanta.org
