veteransdayparMARIETTA’S VETERANS’ DAY PARADE

Veterans’ Day is a National Holiday honoring all veterans and commemorating those who have passed on.  Originally known as “Armistice Day”, it is observed annually on November 11, the day on which the Armistice was signed at Compiegne, France in 1918 to end World War I between the Allies and Germany.  As history notes, it was signed on “the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.”  After World War II, the name was changed to “Veterans’ Day”.

This year’s Grand Marshal/Keynote Speaker will be MGen. Stayce Harris, Commanding General of the 22nd Air Force based at Dobbins. Thus far, 31 confirmed participants have signed on, including six bands, numerous veterans’ organizations, and a large and varied number of military vehicles under the auspices of the Military Vehicles Preservation Association, an annual and integral participant.

On Wednesday, November 11, 2015 the Parade commences promptly at 11 AM from the church parking lot;  proceeds up Roswell St. to the Square, around the Square, then down Lawrence St., where participants disband in the vicinity of the Post Office.  Ceremonies on the Square commence at 12:00 Noon and conclude around 1:00 PM.   Chadwick will be the Master of Ceremonies.  Further info may be obtained by calling or e-mailing Scott Chadwick at 404 308-5420/scottchad37@yahoo.com or Ms. Betsy Kelly in Mayor Tumlin’s office, bkelly@mariettaga.gov/770 794-5502.

Please sign up to participate and help the City of Marietta and the Kiwanis Club of Marietta honor all veterans and commemorate those who have paid the ultimate price in serving the United States of America.
