MCS Celebrates Teachers & Employees

2014 MCS Teachers of the year.Marietta City Schools (MCS) honored teachers and school system employees during its annual awards celebration. Katy Eason, a fifth-grade teacher at Sawyer Road Elementary was named the 2015 System Teacher of the Year. Dr. Emily Lembeck, MCS Superintendent made the announcement at the district’s Annual Teacher of the Year and Employee Awards Ceremony held May 27, 2014.

“Katy Eason is a true example of what it means to be an educator,” said MCS Superintendent Dr. Emily Lembeck. “Her exemplary work in and outside of the classroom exemplifies the dedication she has for her students’ lives, education, and future. She deserves this honor.” (Dr Lembeck and Katy Eason are pictured at right).

“We are grateful to our valued business partners, Ed Voyles Automotive Group, Marietta Power & Water, Houze & Associates, Torrance Construction Company, and other Cobb/Marietta area businesses for their continued financial support. Each year they help make it possible for us to host the Annual Teacher of the Year and Employee Awards Ceremony,” added Lembeck.

SA White Oil recognizedRandy Weiner, Chair of the Board of Education of the City of Marietta, presented Board Appreciation Awards to the Kim Gresh, president of S. A. White Oil Company, for donating a $25 CITGO Gift Card to each employee as part of a special ceremony honoring their commitment through the “Snow Jam” winter storm. Weiner also presented a Board Appreciation Award to Abiding Angels of First United Methodist Church. Over the years, Abiding Angels donated funds, time, and energy to support Marietta families in need.

Ms. Rose Wing Jr., presented the Rose Wing Teacher of Promise Award to Christina Updyke, a teacher at A.L. Burruss Elementary, in memoriam to Mrs. Rose Wing who taught for 42 years at Marietta City Schools. The award established in 2013 recognizes young teachers with 2-5 years of teaching experience who embody the extraordinary ability and spirit that Mrs. Wing brought to the profession.

Other Award categories presented included, the 2014 Customer Service Excellence Award presented to Marietta Sixth Grade Academy, and the Employee of the Year Award presented to Chef Ginger Pratt, culinary arts teacher at Marietta High School.
