MARIETTA BUSINESS ASSOCIATION
The Marietta Business Association’s monthly luncheon for April featured author, broadcaster, businessman and former Presidential candidate Herman Cain. Mr. Cain shared his “GPS: Guiding Principles for Success” with attendees at the meeting. He defined his principles as working on the right problem, asking the right questions, and removing barriers that prevent success. He encouraged business leaders to first listen well and then focus on what they learn from listening. He limited his political comments to voicing support for the current administration’s ability to focus on the right problems including tax cuts and funding for the military. He praised the Marietta High School’s College and Career Academy and Dr. Tim Brown for removing barriers to success for many students. The Academy recently received a $3.1 million grant to expand career pathways and construct a building for the Academy. MBA president Angella Ocheltree recognized two special guests from the Marietta High School Career Pathways program. Theresa Fenton, a senior, and Anne Carroll, a teacher in the Elementary and Early Childhood Education pathway, were presented with a Montessori Building Blocks set to be used by students in the EECE pathway. The May meeting will be held on the third Monday, May 21, (because of the Memorial Day holiday). The speaker is Sharon Mason, CEO of the Cobb Chamber, speaking about her vision for the Chamber under her leadership and what she sees for Cobb County going forward.
MAY-RETTA DAZE ARTS & CRAFTS.
The Marietta Parks and Recreation Department invites our community to attend the 42nd Annual May-retta Daze Arts and Crafts Festival held in Glover Park in the Historic Marietta Square on May 5-6, 2018. Sat 10-5; Sun 11-5. More than 100 local and area artists and craftspeople will display and sell their paintings, pottery, jewelry, and much more at the annual festival. Admission to the festival is free.
MAY MARIETTA TREE KEEPERS
Marietta Tree Keepers invites you to attend our next Sip n’ Stroll this Spring, on Friday, May 11th, 2018 at 5:00pm The event features a special casual tour with tree experts, identifying common opportunities and issues relating to trees. It’s free and open to the public … and it’s BYOB. For this Sip n’ Stroll, we will stroll around the Marietta Square’s Glover Park and adjoining streets. Certified arborists and landscape architects will lead the tour of the neighborhood, pointing out the many treasures and challenges that exist among our valuable stock of trees. The experts will offer practical advice as to how we can extend the life of our mature trees and how we can plan for their eventual replacement. The experts will discuss overhead utilities, proper pruning, protecting root systems and selecting the right specimen for the right location.
Visitors are welcome to bring their own evening refreshments and MTK will provide water and light snacks. The event will only be cancelled if it is raining heavy or lightning. Location is Marietta Square’s Glover Park and we will meet at 50 North Park Square, Marietta, GA 30064. MARTINIS AND MUSIC
The Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art, located at 30 Atlanta Street, is set to host Martinis & Music on Friday, May 11th, 2018. It will begin at 5:30pm and run until 8:30 pm. The cost of admission will be ten dollars, with the exception of members who will enter for free.
The event will be hosting Bob Geresti on the keyboard and showcasing Dylan Pierce and Alfred Conteh. In addition, an art auction will be held to benefit Hickory Hills Elementary.
The event aims to create a fun and light atmosphere while enjoying American art and benefiting the local community. There will be a cash only bar with light hor d’oeuvres. The auction will be featuring original works from professional artists. These artists collaborated with students and teachers of the elementary to bring these pieces to life. Hickory Hills Art Auction will begin at the start of the event and close at 7:30pm. All of the proceeds from the auction will go directly to Hickory Hills Elementary to help benefit the needs of students.
Dylan Pierce’s Legacy of Hope: Studies in Africa and Alfred Conteh’s Vision of a Cultural Commentator will be featured during Martinis & Music.
MARIETTA COUNCIL OF GARDEN CLUBS MEET
Do you love to garden and would you like to be part of a local garden club in your area? The Marietta Council of Garden Clubs(MCGC) would love for you to join a garden club and we invite you to our monthly meetings. Maybe you’re a beginner and lack basic gardening knowledge, or an experienced gardener looking to get involved in community projects. The upcoming meeting is on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at 9:30am. Come and socialize and listen to this month’s program on the “Hills and Dales Historical Gardens and Home”. This presentation will feature speaker Jo Phillips. The program will share with us all about the history of the historical home and its gardens. The meeting also informs you on what the garden clubs are doing in the Marietta area. MARIETTA ART WALKS
The 2018 season of Marietta Square Art Walk kicked off Friday, March 2nd and continues every first Friday through November. THE MAY Art Walk will be held this Friday, May 4 from 5-9 pm. Art Walk celebrates the vitality of Marietta’s diverse cultural Arts scene with artists, businesses, and organizations representing a variety of artistic disciplines.
During this free, self-guided walking tour guests will enjoy gallery openings, live music, original photography, painting, sculpture and more on display along the sidewalks throughout town. Art lovers will also enjoy late night shopping at the many one-of-a-kind boutiques.

MARIETTA CONCERTS
The Marietta community and surrounding areas will again be “dancing in the street” during the Glover Park Concert Series presented by LGE Community Credit Union. The series features local and regional acts on the last Friday night, April through September The concerts are free but if you are looking for a “front-row seat,” a limited number of tables can be reserved for a fee. Table reservations are taken on a first come basis (and will sell out quickly) on the first working day of each month beginning at 8:00 a.m.

Blankets and lawn chairs may be set up in the park. Personal tables and plastic ground coverings are not permitted in the park, however they may be set up on the street after 5:30 p.m. Bring a picnic dinner (beer & wine is permitted) or dine in one of the many fine restaurants located on the square.
Join others and participate in the table decorating contest. The contest is held prior to each concert with the winner will take home a basket full of goodies including 6 tickets to the Studio Movie Grill. STRAND: Wings (Sunday, May 20, 2018 @ 3:00 PM)

The first feature film to win an Academy Award for Best Picture, Wings is a 1927 silent classic that tells the story of two men (Buddy Rogers and Richard Arlen) in love with the same woman (Clara Bow). After the U.S. enters World War I, both join the Air Corps to fight in France and their rivalry grows into a wary friendship once they become fellow fighter pilots. Will the girl tear apart their friendship? Live organ pops variety show and sing-along at 2:30 PM. Tickets are $10.
