KMHS presents Elton John’s Aida

aida_085Kennesaw Mountain High School’s Theatre Department will present the musical Aida on November 20, 21 at and 22 at 7:00 pm in the school’s Susan Gunderman Theater.  The musical was written by pop icon Elton John and Broadway legend Tim Rice – the same team who created The Lion King.

The musical play tells the story of a forbidden love that flourishes in a time of hate.  In the midst of a war between Egypt and Nubia a young military captain is intrigued by one of his recent captives.  Unknown to the captain, the prisoner is the Nubian Princess, Aida.

As their time together passes, they are drawn to one another even though the captain is engaged to the Pharaoh’s daughter.  Director Coy Dunn, who was the Cobb County Teacher of the Year in 2012, says the play has a wonderful balance between upbeat music and comedy with a dramatic storyline rich with forbidden love, greed, secrets, intrigue and murder”.

Summer Finley brings the title role to life as Aida. Zach Seabaugh plays the military captain, Radames, who is caught in a love triangle between his childhood friend whom he is expected to marry and the new slave girl that challenges him in every regard.

Landon Ebuna received the Region One-Act Play Best Actor award last year playing Tom Sawyer.  He is back on the stage this year playing Mereb, Aida’s former childhood friend who has been a slave since he was a child.  Shelbea Owen portrays the Egyptian princess Amneris.  Daniel Frisbie plays Radames’ evil father Zoser.   Trevor Winnett portrays the Pharaoh while Brie Wolfe and Iyani Kelly play Aida’s best friends.  The role of Aida’s father is played by Patrick Burrell .

“We have 36 performers – singing, dancing, and acting with two technical theatre classes offering support behind the scenes.  They have been working this show for several weeks so I cannot wait until the audiences get to see the product of all of their hard work and efforts.”

Tickets are $7 in advance and $10 at the door.    Tickets may be purchased at the school’s front office between 8 – 4.
