Honoring Our Veterans

Our community has a variety of events planned for this Veteran’s Day weekend starting Friday, November 9, with a luncheon hosted by the City of Kennesaw and American Legion Post 304, a parade on Saturday on the Marietta Square, and a Veteran’s Day Salute at the Strand on Sunday.  Below is more detail of each event.

Kennesaw to Honor Veterans at Luncheon

The City of Kennesaw will honor the service of military members past and present with a complimentary lunch on Friday, November 9 from noon – 2 pm at the Ben Robertson Community Center, located at 2753 Watts Drive.
North Cobb American Legion Post 304 is partnering with Kennesaw city officials and staff to host the lunch. Additional sponsors include the Run for Wounded Heroes 5K. All veterans and active duty military are invited to attend. No identification will be required.

BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE

The public is invited to celebrate our veterans on November 10, with a special evening USO-styled entertainment spanning wars from World War II through current day. Fine art created by veterans will be featured at a one of a kind veterans art auction in addition to renowned regional and national works donated by our sponsors. The event begins at 7:00 pm at the Marietta Country Club. The cost is $75 per person and includes an extensive buffet and cash bar. Call 770-847-9559 for more information. 14th Annual Veterans Day Parade on November 10, 2018

Please join the City of Marietta and the Kiwanis Club of Marietta in honoring all veterans on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at the 14th Annual Veterans Day Parade on the Marietta Square. We hope to have a large turnout to honor all veterans and commemorate those who have paid the ultimate price in serving our great nation on Saturday, November 10th at 11am on the Marietta Square. The parade begins at the Roswell Street Baptist Church at 10:45am and marches up Roswell Rd towards the Marietta Square and back down Lawrence Street with the intention of being on the Square by 11:11am. This year’s Grand Marshal is Brigadier General Tom Blackstock, Commander, 78th Troop Command of the Georgia Army National Guard.

Acworth’s Veterans Day Ceremony

The City of Acworth would like to say thank you to those who have faithfully served their country as well as those who are now serving. Acworth is honored to have these brave men and women living in our community and what better way to honor them than to host a Veterans Day Ceremony. Join us on Sunday, November 11 at 2:00 p.m. at Patriots Point at Cauble Park, home of the Veterans Memorial to honor our nation’s veterans.

If you have not seen the Veterans Memorial at Patriot’s Point at Cauble Park, make sure you visit us on November 11. The service flags of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and Cost Guard surround the American Flag. The concrete dome structure is surrounded by a paver walkway with engraved pavers. You can still honor a veteran by purchasing a 4×4 or 8×8 paver on the Acworth Parks and Recreation website. STRAND’S VETERANS DAY EVENT SPOTLIGHTS LOCAL WWII VETERANS

This Veterans Day the Big Chicken Chorus, the Marietta Daily Journal, and the Earl and Rachel Smith Strand Theatre have come together to present Veterans Day Salute, a program celebrating and honoring members of the armed forces at The Strand on Sunday, November 11 at 3PM.

The program will feature: A patriotic barbershop music concert by the Marietta chapter of the national Barbershop Harmony Society, the Big Chicken Chorus. A film screening of The Marietta Daily Journal’s “Memories of War” documentary featuring interviews with local World War II veterans giving their invaluable testimony of the war and their place in it (compiled by Kelly Huff). A live Q&A talk back with local WWII veterans. Patrons will get a rare opportunity to hear experiences from before, during, and after the war directly from those who lived it.

A celebration of our veterans and an invaluable insight into the second world war from those who experienced it first hand, this event is a must-see for any supporters of the men and women who gave everything for their country and anyone with an interest in WWII history.

Patrons will also have the opportunity to purchase a VIP experience which includes a ticket to the Veterans Day Salute program, a DVD copy of the “Memories of War” documentary and a reception on The Strand terrace prior to the program.

All active duty military and veterans get in free to the Veterans Day Salute program. Free tickets must still be reserved through the box office at 770.293.0080. Tickets to the program are $10 for the general public. VIP tickets are $25. VIP tickets for active duty military and veterans is $15.
