First Friday Art Walk – June 6 – Marietta

littlegirlMarietta, Ga (June 4, 2014) – First Friday Art Walk on the historic Marietta Square will be held on June 6, from 5-9 p.m., and will be the kick-off event for a month-long commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain and the the Civil War in Marietta.  Over 30 artists will be showing their work in front of numerous merchants, restaurants and galleries who will host them.

In Atherton Square, behind Cool Beans and Hemmingways, Art Walk presents Tavern in the gARTen, selling beer and wine, additional artists and musical entertainment from well-known local acts.  First up, from 5-6:30 p.m., adult students from the well-regarded Jennings Music Group will perform, followed by Kenny Mac and Friends from 7-9 p.m.  Kenny Mac and Friends perform regularly at Johnny MacCrackens, and enjoy a loyal fan following.  Tables and chairs are available for all guests to sit and enjoy.

Additional musicians and performing artists will be found throughout the Square, hosted by participating merchants.  Ask an Art Walk Ambassador for a map and directions.  You can identify them by their distinct white Art Walk aprons.

Two artists contests continue to encourage artists to show their best work.  “Best of Show” awards $200, and a chance to be exhibited in one of three galleries; dk Gallery, 2 Rules Fine Art, and the Red Door Art Gallery and Studio.  The “People’s Choice” award, with a $50 gift certificate, goes to the artist who gets the most “likes” on the Art Walk Facebook page.

Adding to the entertainment will be a 150th re-enactor Confederate camp in Glover Park, other strolling musicians, Gone With the Wind 75th anniversary activities, Civil War hospital walking tours, and a Sunday spiritual concert by Dr. Oral Moses.
