NOW-OCT 20. CALLING ALL BAKERS Whip out you favorite recipe for cake, pie, cookies, and dessert and plan to enter the Superior Plumbing Taste of Kennesaw Community Bake-Off on Saturday, November 2. All items must be brought baked and must be baked from scratch – no box mixes or store purchased items. This is a great time to share your grandmother’s favorite recipe! The fee is $5.00 per entry, one entry per category. Judging will be based on flavor, appearance, originality and texture. Payment is due at check-in on the day of the event. If you have a story or history that goes with your recipe, please include it with your entry. All proceeds to benefit Shop with a Warrior – North Cobb High School, Shop with a Mustang – Kennesaw Mountain High School, Shop with a Longhorn – Kell High School, Jerry Worthan Community Christmas Fund and The Bill Thrash Kennesaw Teen Center. NOW-SAT SEPT 29 CUT-A-THON FOR AUTISM. Calling all stylists and barbers and their clients. Won’t you join our area salons and barbershops that are teaming up to create autism awareness. Proceeds from our Cut-a-Thon will be used to give products, therapy and guidance,to many families searching for answers. Each shop has their unique way of creating autism awareness. THURS. SEPT 19-SUN. SEPT 29 NORTH GEORGIA STATE FAIR. 87th Annual Superior Plumbing Presents the North Georgia State Fair beginning Thursday, Sept. 19, through Sunday, September 29, 2019 at Jim R. Miller Park, 2245 Callaway Rd., Marietta. The fair grounds will be open Monday through Thursday 4 to 11 p.m., Fridays 4 p.m. to midnight Saturdays 10 a.m., to midnight, and Sundays 12:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Gate Admission: $7.00 admission. Children 10 and under are free. Ride tickets are $1.25 each, $20.00 for 21 tickets, $50.00 for 55 tickets and $100 for 120 tickets. All rides require more than one ticket. Parking is $5. Concerts FREE with fair admission. ATM machines are located on the midway. Online advance discount tickets can be purchased for $5.00, with children 10 and under free. THURS. SEPT 19 NORTH GEORGIA STATE FAIR PAGEANT-6:00 pm. Young ladies aged 3 to 24 years are invited to put on their favorite dresses and enter the 2019 North Georgia State Fair Pageant set for opening night at Jim R. SAT SEPT 21 – RUN THE WARRIOR WAY – NCHS Cross Country Fundraiser. The Warrior Way begins at 7:30 a.m. in the front of North Cobb High School and the fee is $25. SAT SEPT 21 PINWHEELS FOR PEACE – Celebrate International Day of Peace at Swift Cantrell Park from 10-6:00 pm. Home made, store bought, pinwheels may be dropped off at the park from 8:00 am until 10:00 am that morning. SAT SEPT 21 FREE ADMISSION AT SOUTHERN MUSEUM.The Southern Museum will open its doors free of charge to all Museum Day ticket holders on Saturday September 21, 2019 as part of Smithsonian magazine’s 15th annual Museum Day. Museum Day tickets will be available for download at beginning August 15. Visitors who present a Museum Day ticket will gain free entrance for two at participating venues on September 21, 2019. SAT 21 BBQ FUNDRAISER FOR WARRIORS AGAINST DIPG Warriors Against DIPG is having a BBQ fund raiser in honor of India’s Journey to be held on September 21, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Mount Olivet Baptist Church, 2385 Acworth Due West Road, Acworth, GA  30101.  Proceeds will be donated to the Dana-Farber Institute of Cancer and the Jimmy Fund for DIPG research. DIPGs (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Gliomas) are highly aggressive and difficult to treat tumors found in the lowest, stem-like part of the brain called the pons which control many of the body’s most vital functions such as breathing, blood pressure, and heart rate;

SAT SEPT 21 – MARIETTA COBB ART MUSEUM OPENING RECEPTION.  The public is invited to attend the opening reception for The Perpetual Stranger – a joint exhibition by two Atlanta artists: Tori Tinsley and Ally White.  The exhibit will run from September 21 until December 15, 2019.  The reception is on Saturday,  September 21, from 6:00-8:00 PM.  Light refreshments will be served.  Members admitted at no charge, non-members and other guests are welcome at $10 per person.  The Museum is located at 30 Atlanta Street, Marietta, GA 30060.

MON-FRI SEPT 23-27 SCIENCE EXPLORATION CAMP Looking for something fun for the kids over fall break? Come to our Science Exploration Camp, taking place September 23-27. We will explore a wide range of sciences like gravity, density, chemical reactions, and go on an exciting field trip! Campers will receive safety goggles and a lab coat for a week long exploration of science! This camp takes place at the Acworth Community Center. FRI SEPT 27 SCARECROW REGISTRATION DEADLINE – Registration is open for the City of Marietta’s Parks and Recreation Department’s 14th Annual Scarecrows in the Square contest. The deadline to register is September 27, 2019. Decorate a Scarecrow on the Square by displaying your group, business or school’s creativity and personality via a scarecrow! Registration forms are available online for the public scarecrow contest. Entries will be judged on originality, construction and presentation. Creators are urged to use a theme and name that showcases the business or group’s personality or celebrates Marietta’s history with a historic figure. FRI SEPT 27 – CASINO NIGHT – Mostly Mutts fundraiser On Friday, September 27 starting at 6:30 PM Mostly Mutts Animal Rescue is hosting an exciting fundraiser at the new Acworth Community Center.Local Acworth restaurant Fusco‘s Via Roma will cater the buffet dinner. MUSEUM MOMMY & ME CLASSES. Join us each Thursday from 9:30 am – 12:30 pm for Mommy & Me! Our program is specifically designed for children aged 3-5 and their caregivers. Discover and explore the world around us through play! Create, experiment, investigate, and learn together. Each week has a different theme, and lots of fun new activities to play with. Cost is included in museum admission and free for museum members.

“Lumiere Lounge” (6-10pm) on the second floor at the Strand Theatre Come to the Strand and pay homage to the days of old with a silent film inspired piano bar and lounge! As you sink into a plush couch or join a friend at a café table, the modern world seems to drift away as classic silent films quietly flicker in the background while a live pianist plays. The Lumière Lounge will feature specialty cocktails made with local ‘Hometown Honey’ in addition to a full bar. Lumière is held on the second floor lounge on select Friday and Saturday nights from 6-10pm.
