SAT FEB 24 – POLAR PLUNGE – For the second year, Plungers will “bear” the cold waters at Acworth Beach at 11am (plunge is at 1:30pm) to support the athletes of Special Olympics Georgia in the ninth annual Polar Plunge fundraiser. Participants/Teams of all ages are welcome and must raise a minimum of $50 to plunge. All plungers will receive a commemorative Plunge long sleeve t-shirt. MON FEB 26 MARIETTA BUSINESS ASSOCIATION 11:30 – The February MBA meeting will feature Sam Olens speaking about Marietta and Cobb County Past, Present, Future – through the eyes of Sam Olens. Sam has dedicated his career to public service, first serving as a the Cobb County Commissioner, then as Chairman of the Cobb County Commission. He went on to serve as the Attorney General of the State of Georgia, and more recently as President of Kennesaw State University. SAT MARCH 3 FREE TREES AT Marietta Farmer’s Market – In an effort to promote awareness of Georgia’s Arbor Day, Marietta Tree Keepers will give away “Free Trees” on Saturday, March 3, 2018 from 9am-12noon or until we run out of free tree seedlings at the Farmer’s Market on Marietta Square (weather permitting). The variety of trees are Dogwoods, Northern Red Oaks and Redbuds. Free literature will also be available on selecting trees, caring for trees and maintaining trees. This event is free to the public.
SAT MAR 3 SENSORY FRIENDLY CONCERT – 2:00 pm.The Georgia Symphony Orchestra, in collaboration with Autism Speaks will present the third annual Sensory Friendly Concert at 2pm on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at the Marietta Performing Arts Center. This event is designed especially for persons with autism and their families. As a component of the GSO’s educational and outreach programs, this concert will provide audience members the ability to experience great orchestral music without any of the constraints of a standard performance. During this 50 minute program, audience members are free to move about, dance, and make noise. The Marietta Performing Arts Center is located at 1171Whitlock Avenue, adjacent to Marietta High School in Marietta. Tickets are $10. On Saturday, March 10, 2018, the City of Marietta and Keep Marietta Beautiful will hold a shredding event from 9am-12pm at 591 North Marietta Pkwy NE, Marietta, GA 30060. While the event is free, donations are greatly appreciated. If you have confidential or sensitive documents that need to be safely discarded, Keep Marietta Beautiful will shred will allow you to watch your documents as they are shredded on site. SAT MAR 24 RIDE TO READ MOTORCYCLE FUNDRAISER – Brookwood Christian School invites all motorcycle enthusiasts to join them as Brookwood honors National Reading Month by hosting their first charity motorcycle ride with Acworth’s very own Chef Henry Chandler leading the ride! The event will be held on Saturday, March 24. Proceeds benefit the International Dyslexia Association – Georgia Chapter as well as Brookwood Christian’s Dyslexia Reading Programs.
