NOW 2-MAY 5 ZMA SPRING EXHIBITION The Bernard A. Zuckerman Museum of Art’s Spring 2019 exhibitions, “Louder than Words” and “Sahwa/Resurgence: Works by Hicham Berrada,” open on Saturday, February 2. SAT FEB 9 MARIETTA TREE KEEPERS invites volunteers of all ages to help plant trees. We will be planting trees in Marietta’s NEW Fire Station #56 ( this is NOT the Fire Station on Allgood Road). The parking address is: 850 Sawyer Road, Marietta, 30062, look for the green signage. The date is Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 9:00am. Sign in is 9:00am and planting will run from 9:30-11:30 am. SAT FEB 9 BATTLE OF KENNESAW hosted by Energy Tae Kwon Do (ETO) Calling all Martial Arts & Fitness Competitors! The Energy Tae Kwon Do Organization will host the 16th Annual Battle of Kennesaw Martial Arts and Fitness Championships will be held at Furtah Prep School on Saturday February 9th. The Ben Robertson Community Center’s Banquet Hall will be transformed into a dazzling and dreamy set of a movie premiere filled with popcorn and music. On Tuesday, February 12 at 7:00 p.m., thirteen year old Andrew Bramlett will speak on “Almost States” at Roberts School in Acworth. Mr. Bramlett is Vice President of the Kennesaw Historical Society, an honorary member of the Kennesaw Cemetery Preservation Committee, volunteers at Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park, and writes a monthly column for Bright Side News.

SAT FEB 23 Special Olympics Polar Plunge – The 2019 Special Olympics Polar Plunge, hosted by the Law Enforcement Torch Run For Georgia, will take place at Acworth Beach at Cauble Park on Saturday in February. 23, 2019. Gates open at 11:00 a.m. and the Plunge begins at 1:00 p.m.Anyone with a little guts and a warm heart wanting to support the athletes of Special Olympics Georgia is welcome to participate! Participants collect pledges from friends and family in exchange for the opportunity to jump into icy waters in the middle of winter. All proceeds collected by “plungers” will benefit the athletes of Special Olympics Georgia. FRI MAR 1 ADULT SPELLING BEE Friday, March 1, 2019 will be a night of laughs, some really unusual on-stage antics, and truly funny attempts at spelling difficult words-that’s the “Bee”, a once year event hosted by Communities In Schools Georgia in Marietta/Cobb County. All proceeds benefit our drop out prevention programming.
Remember when you were a kid and you participated in a spelling bee at school? Well, this is nothing like that! It’s all adults, on stage, in costume working together to spell words. The event is hosted by Mark Owens, in game host for the Braves and our judges are Jen Carfagno and Dr. Greg Postel from The Weather Channel. MON MAR 4 -ACWORTH CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY. During the twelve weeks, participants will have the opportunity to interact with officers and receive a basic understanding of the operations of the Acworth Police Department and law enforcement in general.  All classes will be held at the Acworth Police Department, with a few field trips.
