Big Shanty Festival almost here

Kennesaw/Big Shanty Festival will celebrate its 37th year as the City of Kennesaw and surrounding areas turn out to celebrate the weekend of April 20 & 21, 2013.  The entire downtown area will be jam packed with people enjoying the best of today’s fun-filled activities while at the same time enjoying the rich heritage of Kennesaw and the Civil War era.

The festival is made possible by Kennesaw Business Association in cooperation with the City of Kennesaw, and Superior Plumbing as title sponsor.

The Kennesaw/Big Shanty Festival is host to one of the largest Arts & Crafts Shows in North Georgia.  Visitors and residents alike will be able to browse through over 250 booths of the Southeast’s finest artisans featuring a wide variety of beautiful and unusual items. Plus 25 food booths,

Over 60,000 people are expected to attend the Festival this year.  The heart of downtown Kennesaw and the  Southern Museum, home of that awesome iron horse, the “General”, serve as the central location of this annual Festival.  There will be a Civil War Encampment during the festival featuring the lifestyle, uniforms, and firearms of the Civil War era.

To kick off the festivities – A PARADE – will start at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 20. The Parade features fabulous floats and proud marchers – over 2,000 youngsters alone representing every sport association and school in the area, plus the winners of Little Miss Cobb Beauty Pageant along with the winners of the Master, Miss, and Mrs. Kennesaw Pageant and Allatoona, Kennesaw Mountain and North Cobb School Bands.  The Parade will start at Adams Park and continue down Main St. through downtown Kennesaw. The Kennesaw/Big Shanty Festival is held in downtown Kennesaw on both sides of Main Street (Highway 293) and is co-sponsored by the City of Kennesaw and the Kennesaw Business Association (a non-profit organization).  The hours of operation are 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM on Saturday, April 20 and 12 Noon – 5:00 PM on Sunday, April 21.  Admission is FREE.  For more information email todmiller@jrmmanagement.com or  call 770-423-1330.
