NOW – OCT 20 – ‘ONCE UPON A PLAYGROUND’ EXHIBIT- The classic metal and wood structures that have populated playgrounds for most of the twentieth century—towering metal slides, giant jungle gyms, whirling merry-go-rounds, bouncing seesaws—have become beloved artifacts of childhood. Once Upon a Playground offers a visual tribute to these vanishing playgrounds of our past, celebrating their place in American culture and the collective memories of generations. The Marietta History Museum is located at 1 Depot Street, Marietta.

THU SEP 21 – NORTH GEORGIA STATE FAIR BEAUTY PAGEANT – The annual beauty pageant for ages 3 years through 24 years will highlight opening day activities for the 85th North Georgia State Fair, 2245 Callaway Rd., Marietta. Early registration fee iS $65 through Sept. 20 when there will be an optional rehearsal. Full registration of $75 will be accepted one hour prior to each pageant on Sept. 21. THU-SUN SEP 21-OCT 1 – NORTH GEORGIA STATE FAIR! – The 85th Annual North Georgia State Fair will be held Thursday, Sept. 21, through Sunday, October 1, 2017 with the following times: Monday through Thursday 4 to 11 p.m., Fridays 4 p.m. to midnight, Saturdays 10 a.m., to midnight, and Sundays 12:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. As the largest fair in metro Atlanta, the Superior Plumbing North Georgia State Fair attracts nearly 300,000 people every year from north Georgia and neighboring states. The Superior Plumbing North Georgia State Fair features live music, free attractions and shows, farm animals, flower shows, blue ribbon competitions, local entertainment, and delicious fair foods.  There are also games and rides on the Great James H. Drew Exposition midway– one of the largest carnival midways in the United States, featuring the Wildcat Rollercoaster and the Georgia Mountain Lift. A cornerstone of the fair, the great James H. Drew Exposition  Midway returns with one of the largest carnival midways in the United States, featuring the Wildcat Rollercoaster and the Georgia Mountain Lift. MON-FRI SEP 25-29 – THE STRAND’S BOOT CAMP PART A- 9AM-4PM Enhance your performance tool-kit at The Strand’s fall break boot camp which culminates in the return of the Strandemonium, Jr show! Participants will spend the first half of each day throughout the week exploring and honing a multitude of performing arts skills including auditioning, singing, acting, dancing, and technical theatre. After a lunch break, students will learn the foundation numbers for the Halloween-themed music revue: Strandemonium, Jr. For grades 1-8. The show dates for Strandemonium Jr. are October 26th and 27th at 7pm. Cost for the combined Part A and Part B program is $300. Part B only is $200. MON-FRI SEP 25-29 – MARIETTA PARKS & REC FALL BREAK CAMP – 9am – 4pm at the Custer Park Sports and Fitness Center. Register your child for a safe, healthy, and fun environment for youth ages 6 – 12. Daily activities will consist of fitness and sports activities, arts and crafts, group games, weekly field trips, and more! Copy of your child’s birth certificate is required prior to the first day of activities. The cost of the camp is $75 for Marietta residents and $100 for non-residents and residency verification is required. WED SEP 27 – COMFORT KEEPERS JOB FAIR – Comfort Keepers, licensed leader in in-home care is hosting a job fair at 10am at Comfort Keepers’ offices near downtown Marietta. The company is looking for good-hearted, mature persons with reliable transportation to become caregivers who want to work part-time in Cobb County assisting adults – often elderly adults – in their homes. THU SEP 28 – WALTER REEVES TO SPEAK – Gardening expert and radio host Walter Reeves will be speaking at the Hilton Marietta Hotel & Conference Center at 500 Powder Springs St., Marietta, GA 30064. FRI SEPT 29 – GLOVER PARK CONCERT –  Last concert of the season featuring the Grapevine, Big Band/Motown music. Blankets and lawn chairs may be set up in the park.  Personal tables and plastic ground coverings are not permitted in the park, however they may be set up on the street after 5:30 p.m.   Bring a picnic dinner (beer & wine is permitted) or dine in one of the many fine restaurants located on the square. Parking is available in Cobb County Park Decks (GPS:  Waddell and Lawrence St. Marietta GA)

SAT SEP 30 – LAKE ALLATOONA CLEAN UP – Bring your gloves, wear old clothes and come help clean up Lake Allatoona. The event is sponsored by the Acworth Parks and Recreation Department, the Acworth Lake Authority, Great Lake Allatoona Clean Up Committee, and the Lake Allatoona Association. This is a great project for Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, community groups and anyone who wants to help keep our lakes clean. Trash Pick-Up is from 9 until Noon. SAT SEP 30 – CLASSIC CAR CRUISE – The city of Acworth will host a Classic Car Cruise in Downtown Acworth. The event will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Main Street in Downtown Acworth. The Lake City Cruisers partner with the city and the downtown Acworth merchants to hold these Classic Car Cruises. The event is free to the public. A $2 entry fee is requested for all vehicles in the cruise. All proceeds go to the Horizon Field, an all-inclusive special needs sports facility in Acworth. FRI OCT 6 – ART WALK – Marietta Square Art Walk continues Friday from 5pm to 9pm. Art Walk celebrates the vitality of Marietta’s diverse cultural Arts scene with artists, businesses, and organizations representing all the Arts.  The evening comes alive as performance, dance, culinary and visual Art permeate every corner of the charming Historic Marietta Square. FRI-SAT OCT 6-7 – GPG CONCERT AT THE STRAND – 8pm, Join us for the final Georgia Players Guild show in the GPG concert series – A Tribute to Chicago and Boston: City Tours. Come ‘Hitch A Ride’ down to the Strand and enjoy the iconic tunes of two of the biggest and most influential classic rock bands of the ‘Old Days’! SAT OCT 7 – MAKE-A-WISH 5K – This 5K will be held 8 a.m., beginning and ending at the Marietta Square, rain or shine. Net proceeds are given to Make-A-Wish Georgia. Participants can register through Active.com or at the web site cobbmakeawish5k.org. Fees ARE $30 for an untimed 5K walk run and $35 for timed participants. For children aged 12 and under, the cost is $10 and those aged 5 and under are free. This is an official AJC Peachtree Road Race qualifying event. SAT OCT 7 – ORIGIN OF WORDS LECTURE – Have you ever wondered the background of the word “Highfalutin” or why we use strange phrases like “raining cats and dogs”?  Come to the Kennesaw Library at 2pm to hear Andrew Bramlett, Vice President of the Kennesaw Historical Society, explore the origin of these and many other unusual words and phrases that have made their way into our everyday language.

SAT-SUN OCT 7-8 – GEORGIA BALLET PRESENTS “LA FILLE MAL GARDEE’ – ‘The Girl Who Needed Watching’ is an alternate title for the classical ballet La Fille Mal Gardee, which translates to “the poorly guarded girl”. The comedic storyline focuses on a young girl, Lise, who falls in love with local farm boy, but her mother has arranged an engagement to a rich-but clumsy and slow-witted-son of a vineyard farmer. The playful story about a mother keeping an eye on her young love-struck daughter fills the stage with character and even a few dancing chickens. MON OCT 9 – YMCA GOLF TOURNAMENT – The Northwest Family YMCA along with the Northeast Family YMCA and the McCleskey East Cobb YMCA are hosting the Y Golf Open along the banks of beautiful Lake Acworth at Cobblestone Golf course. Proceeds of this awesome event are helping to provide scholarships for local youth in need to participate in Y programs. Space is still available for golfers and sponsors. WED OCT 11 – GARDEN CLUB LUNCHEON – Do you love to garden and would you like to be part of a local garden club in your area? OCT 12 – CPR/AED CLASS – Acworth Parks, Recreation, and Community Resource Department is now offering CPR/AED certification classes. Attend one 3 hour course to become certified in CPR. First timers or re-certifications are welcome. This course is taught following American Heart Association guidelines. The certification is valid for 2 years. The class will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Roberts School Community Center in Classroom 1. The cost will be $30 for city residents and $35 for non-residents. SAT-SUN OCT 14-15 – CHALKTOBERFEST – The Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art will host Chalktoberfest: 80+ national and international chalk artists, public chalk competition, beer festival, live music, and much more. Fun for the whole family! On Saturday, Oct. 14th, Chalktoberfest includes their annual Craft Beer Festival in conjunction with the Chalk Festival. On Sunday, Oct. 15th, Chalktoberfest will bring in their Creative Kids craft-making section 1:00pm – 5:00pm, geared toward children of all ages – and host their non-professional Chalk Competition with Youth, Teen, School, and Adult Divisions. Competition starts at 10:00am.

SAT OCT 14 – MARIETTA TREE KEEPERS – Calling for volunteers of all ages to come out and assist Marietta Tree Keepers as we maintain Hill Park. Hill Park is a pretty little pocket park that was transformed from a once vacant lot just a few blocks off the northeast corner of Historic Marietta Square. THU OCT 19 – COBB EMC’S FREE SAFETY SEMINAR – 6-8pm, Cobb EMC will be hosting a FREE Safety Seminar! SAT OCT 21 – HARVEST SQUARE ARTS AND CRAFTS – City of Marietta’s 41st Annual Harvest Square Arts and Crafts Festival from 9 am-5 pm on the Marietta Square. The HarvestFest is held in conjunction with Halloween Happenings and Scarecrows on the Square, which will feature a scarecrow contest, costume contests for kids and pets, carnival games and prizes. FARMER’S MARKETS – LOCAL

MONDAYS  – FARMERS MARKET & DINNER AT THE DEPOT – downtown Kennesaw.  Hours are 5:30 – 8:30 for food trucks, 3:30 to 7:30 for farmer’s market – we made a bigger overlap so people could shop both. Great mix of new and existing vendors in the farmer’s market. Live music each week and other entertainment and surprises throughout the season. A good variety of rotating savory and dessert trucks. Family friendly environment, dining outside and neighborhood block party. Picnic tables will be provided, but guests are always welcome to bring their own blankets and chairs.

ACWORTH FARMERS MARKET – The Historic Downtown Acworth Farmer’s Market will begin this season on Friday, April 7 and continue each Friday morning from 8:00 a.m. until noon through Friday, October 27.  The market is located in the Acworth First Baptist Church Parking Lot on the north end of Main Street. Shop a wide variety of garden ripe Georgia grown vegetables, eggs, cheese, bedding plants, fresh baked bread, pies, cakes, honey and jams to choose from each week. SAT/SUN  – MARIETTA FARMER’S MARKET. Year round on Saturdays from 9am-12pm. Sundays: May-October – 12 pm till 3 pm. Takes up residence on N. Park Square. Market customers have lots of variety to choose from including heirloom tomatoes, fruits and vegetables that are rarely, available from the grocery store. MARIETTA SQUARE ART WALK – The first Friday of each month starting in March through November. GLOVER PARK CONCERT SERIES – Last Friday of every month April through September. The concerts are free but if you are looking for a “front-row seat,” a limited number of tables can be reserved for a fee. “Lumiere Lounge” (6-10pm) on the second floor at the Strand Theatre Come to the Strand and pay homage to the days of old with a silent film inspired piano bar and lounge! SATURDAYS  MARIETTA SQUARE ARTISAN MARKET is on Second and Fourth Saturdays.  April through November. The Marietta Square Artisan Market is an open-air showcase of locally-created fine art and premium hand-crafted goods.
